Arkansas Quilters
Guild Newsletter

Number 530 - November 2026

The Purpose of the Arkansas Quilters Guild is to promote the appreciation of the rich heritage of the art of quilting and to enhance each member's own quilting skills and knowledge. It shall also be the purpose of this organization to expand and to enrich the art of quilting for future generations and preserve the existing quilts.

Dear Quilters,

The one thing that happens in the fall I don't look forward to is the fall back time change. Thankfully there is holiday food to look forward to!

There are a few weeks of great hope that there is still time to finish all the projects we wanted to sew this year. Enjoy these few weeks of expectation, the year will be over before you know it. LOL

Your President,

Cindy Barszczewski

Presbyterian House has asked the guild to have a quilt Show and Tell for the residents. The date is November 12 at 3 pm. If you would like to volunteer to show a quilt or two there will be a sign-up sheet at the November meeting. It will be the same as “Show and Tell” at the meetings. This will be fun and a good community outreach for the guild.

Minutes from the October Meeting

The October 12, 2026 Arkansas Quilters Guild meeting was called to order at 6:01pm by President, Cindy Barszczewski. The minutes had been read and were approved with one correction. Toni Poe’s name was misspelled once in the newsletter.

Carrie gave the treasurer’s report. Details may be viewed on the members only section of the website. It is time to plan next year’s budget so please contact Carrie regarding any financial needs.

Eileen Smith announced the Saline County Guild show is August of 2027. They are looking for vendors and entries.

Cindy B. has secured our meeting space until next October.

Committee Reports

AWOL - Leah Sample.

AWOL is coming up Halloween weekend at the Ferncliff Camp in Ferndale. It is our 3 day retreat which is basically a sit and sew. We have 32 registered. Tonight is the last night and if anyone wants to sign up tonight please let Leah know before the break tonight. This will be our last one for the year and we will plan to have 1 or 2 next year.

Programs - Angie Heifner

Tonight’s program will be an EQ presentation by Leah Sample. Next month we will have an extended show and tell as the program. It will be after AWOL and everyone will have a chance to show what they made and show Christmas projects. December will be the Christmas/Holiday party. January we will have Amy from Hickory Hill providing a bag making class, program and also vending. The class is $15 and the kit is also $15. Participants need to bring their sewing machine and sewing supplies. Hickory Hill is for sale and will be shut down if there is no buyer as of May. Angie suggested the possibility of a field trip to the store soon.

Terry Library Quilt Show - Cynthia Quick

The show is up and running with 46 quilts. They will be taken down on Monday, 12/7. There is a new sign out system so if you want someone else to pick up your quilt please let her know. They can’t be picked up before 9:30. Fabio wants to have a small show in the spring. We need at least 12 quilts to have a decent showing. They will send a questionnaire in January to determine interest. Please go vote for your favorites as there are financial awards this year.

Community Service - Riley Middaugh

They have fat quarters for sale to help fund materials to complete donated quilts. Next month someone from Providence Park will be at the meeting to update us. Riley would like for members to get together and use donated fabrics for some full and queen size quilts.

Communications Liason/Challenges - Sherri Dodds

If anyone is having problems receiving email, please get in touch with her. Some members have had their email hacked so if you get a strange email invitation from a member don’t click on it. The UFO challenge #10 was turned in tonight and the #8 will be due next month.

The Facebook account was taken over by Bailey Barnes and she has been making posts. Sherri is planning a Scrappy Happiness challenge and will announce it in a few weeks on the website. Blocks will be made with strip scraps. The Have a Heart challenge is coming to an end so please turn in your blocks. Sherri asked for interest in a challenge using tomato pin cushions in any crafty way members can imagine. It will be called Lets Call the Whole Thing Off.

Membership - Kathy Borrelli

Donna Dingle is a new member as of tonight. See Kathy if you would like to order a new name tag. 2027 dues can be paid early as of this month.

There was no old business brought up.

Debbie Lewis has been handling the advertisers for the guild website/newsletter and needs someone to take over those responsibilities. She said it takes about 10 minutes a month. She has a spread sheet set up already. Please see her afterwards to volunteer.

Leah, Donna and Jim were on the nominating committee. The following slate was printed in the newsletter.

Debbie Lewis, President
Toni Poe, Treasurer
Kathy Borelli, 1st Vice President
Nancy Sahrakar, 2nd Vice President
Cynthia Quick, Secretary

A motion was made Donna Toombs and seconded by Amy King. Membership voted to accept the slate as presented.
